Fresh Start

Fresh Start

If you’re like me, you love a new beginning. A clean slate, a blank canvas. The sun dawning over a brand new day…!
How lovely that, today, we’re waking up to a brand new year!

We’re post-”end of the world” according to interpretations of the Mayan calendar, so isn’t now potentially the beginning of a whole new life for our Mama Earth? And for all of us?

It’s true that every moment is new. If we really want to, we can cast off the old and worn to embrace the new any time. But with the pages of the calendar turning right now–big time–and the whole world sharing this transitional moment, why not enjoy riding this wave of transformational energy toward your own personal fresh start?

I’m extremely fortunate to work with amazing women from all over the world for Ayurvedic healing and self-understanding. Yesterday, the delightful young woman I met with said, “2012 was so incredibly hard, but I’ve noticed lots of people are starting to do really significant personal growth work. I think a lot of us are truly ready to just get real! So I’m sure 2013 is going to be a great year!”

I just loved her comment. 2012 WAS a really challenging year, but each and every challenge met taught me much, and strengthened me in so many ways. I’m so much stronger now, and deeply grateful for the support and nourishment the times of need had me allow into my life.

2013? It can be a great year – no matter how challenging –because many of us are letting go of naive demands that life be easy and sweet in the exact ways we are expecting. Instead of spending our energy in worry, fear, avoidance and judging what life brings us, we are learning to enjoy showing up for what is real.

We’re learning to relish the “burn” we feel when we “build muscle” – our inner strength and command of our attention – so we can truly meet the moment, day after day, with all that we are. This kind of living rewards us greatly–but also requires much from our bodies and minds, so we are learning to take care of ourselves. We’re not taking on burdens that don’t belong to us anymore. Or those that don’t serve us, our Mother Earth, or anyone–really–in the end.

Whether 2013 brings you difficult choices or sacrifices, or a need to stretch yourself to accept uncanny abundance (likely both!) –you have a fresh start today at engaging a deep contentment, a natural fulfillment–a life satisfaction–that you may not have even known to yearn for until now.

I wish you the VERY BEST year of your life, starting now. My faith and support are with you. If you’re reading this, know that–in spirit–I’m in the trenches with you if the going gets rough. And when you’ve made it to the top of the next hill,  enjoying the view, I celebrate with you in spirit too!

I’d love to hear what you learned in 2013– about caring for your body or mind and rising to challenges–how you got stronger–and what you’re opening up to in 2013.  Would love to have your comment…!

With respect and love,
Niika

Timeless Wisdom for Real Women

Timeless Wisdom for Real Women

Beautiful modern morning!

Hello…! Welcome to my blog AyurMama.com.

I’m delighted you are here, and I look forward to sharing the beauty, intelligence, joy, authenticity and strength that can come to each of us as we learn to know ourselves, honor and care for ourselves and embrace our true life purpose, informed by the principles of Ayurveda.

This morning I’m writing from the 44th floor of the Hilton Hotel, in New York City. My laptop rests on a slick black granite surface, my tea steams in fine bone china, and the stunning view through the gleaming window in front of me simply glorifies Central Park–trees burgeoning with Spring blossoms–set into the Manhattan skyline. It’s a brilliant sunny morning, and as my eyes feast on everything, I can’t think of a moment what could be more modern or luxurious!

I’m here at the Yoga Journal Conference this weekend to share my knowledge, and my enthusiasm for Ayurveda. What is Ayurveda exactly?

Ayurveda is the thousands-of-years-old  “sister-science” of yoga, a fascinating system of self-knowledge, health and longevity, born in India. Ayurveda employs our natural, human technology of each of our five senses – and our mind – to restore balance to body and mind when we need that, and to help us live our absolute best lives.

This morning, I can’t help but consider the juxtaposition of these images in my mind:

Ancient India – the source of Ayurveda ~  Delicate women carrying clay water pots, wrapped in cotton saris. Children running behind beautiful soft gray cows with painted horns. Grinding rice and dahl by hand with stones for breakfast… The heat… The fleshy-pink lotuses…. The ritual…. The family lineages… The slow, moving, unpredicatable richness of life, unfurling most sensuously, moment by moment..

versus

The Yoga Journal Conference in New York City in the Springtime ~ Shiny, efficient greeters guiding clean-scrubbed, Lululemon-clad women of all ages (and a few stalwart fellows) into large, brightly-lit carpeted rooms. Cross-trainers…. Tightly-crafted schedules… Interent! Everyone is announced visually by a large plastic name tag, but no one is looking at anyone else! Most eyes are glancing at the glowing screens of  polished mobile devices.

Do these two worlds intersect? What can ancient Ayurveda possibly offer today’s modern woman – even a modern woman interested in yoga, who’s likely keen to live healthily?

As this site will show you, Ayurveda is an incredible resource for you – a woman of today, in East or West!

As you develop greater self-knowledge, and  understand more and more how to make lifestyle, dietary – even career,  relationship – decisions to take the best care of yourself, you will realize a profound beauty, strength and peace that actually is your birthright!

So while even today, the ancient wisdom that continues to flow through India is worthy to experience and learn from – and India offers amazing healing and spiritual opportunities – the ultimate value of Ayurveda is how it can help you life your best life. And THAT does NOT depend on Indian foods and spices, on Indian spirituality or on learning Sanskrit.

Join me here weekly and for special on-line programs to explore who you really are, inside and out, and discover the power that comes with embracing your unique qualities, caring for yourself, and bringing your light into the world. Yes, today’s modern world!

So glad you exist here on the planet, with me now! Let’s enjoy this tremendous life!

With love and appreciation,

Niika
